Welcome to my blog.
For more than a thousand years, pilgrims have traversed the corners of the globe. Some seeking fame or fortune. Some in the name of God. Some to simply find themselves. On the Camino de Santiago, the original trek to the reputed resting place of St. James, the trekkers are called peregrinos. In a sense, we are all peregrinos. This blog is the story of one.
Please allow me to introduce myself. I was born in New Jersey almost 80 years ago, raised in small town in Connecticut, and lived and worked in Connecticut, Pennsylvania and Florida. Presently I live in Atlanta when I am not traveling somewhere in the world. In 2024, I was out of the United States for approximately 8 months. 2025 is shaping up to be slightly less but close.
This blog is primarily concerned with my travels since 2008 and will be updated as I continue my wanderings. As I write this, I am in Chennai India, savoring the sights, smells and sounds of an extraordinary place. Although I was not completely retired until 2014, my business activities during 2008-2014 could be fully accomplished remotely. My last commercial endeavor was brokering the sale of a U.S. located hotel while sitting on an old roman wall surrounding a small church set at the crest of a mountain in the Apennines of Northern Italy. It was the only place that I could get a cell signal.
Although the majority of this blog concerns my travels and activities after 2008, I thought it interesting to include my military tour of duty on the island formerly known as Iwo Jima, site of an infamous WWII battle. I was there from October 1971 to November 1972. I have read that there is only one person still alive (as of October 2025) that took part in the great battle. Although it was 26 years after the battle that I was there, the island was relatively undisturbed. Read more in the Iwo Jima section.
Putting this blog together has brought back some very fond memories and I look forward to many more adventures as the future unfolds.
